✽ Welcome ✽

15-20 minutes

Before class: Take out a Plain White Card. The cut corners form a roof line for the stable. Separate sticker of Mary and Joseph Sticker. Each student should have one white card and one sticker. You will need one roll of masking tape or glue stick for everyone to share. Before the children arrive, attach several pieces of masking tape to the edge of the work table. Tear the tape into ¾ ” to 1″ pieces. Try to tear the tape so that the edges are uneven. Be ready to pass out the jumbo brown crayons.

Welcome your students and lead them to the work table. As you hand them each a Manger Card, pick up a length of tape, placing it at random on the card. Say “Can you do this? Pick up the tape and put it wherever you want on the card. Put it on only one side of the card. Let’s see you cover the whole thing with tape! It is good for the pieces of tape to touch each other. It is okay for the tape to get messed up when you put it on. How many pieces can you put on?” Replenish the pieces of tape along the table edge as needed. When a student’s card is full, give him a brown crayon. “Now lightly color all over your tape”. When that has been completed, hand out Mary and Joseph Sticker, to be centrally placed near the bottom of the stable. There is no need to tell the students the details of the story until “Bible Time”. Write the student names on the backs of cards. Your assistant may want to cut or bend any masking tape extending beyond the edge toward the back of the card.
